Non-Religious Funerals

Non-religious funerals (also known as humanist funerals) are funeral services conducted to honour the memory of a loved one without the inclusion of religious elements.

We understand that everyone is unique, and we recognise that not everyone follows or practices a particular faith. We offer non-religious funerals that focus on reflecting your loved one’s values and personality in a meaningful and compassionate way.

Our committed team of funeral directors are here to help and support you through the loss of a loved one, providing you with help and guidance to arrange a funeral service to reflect the life of your loved one.

Non-Religious Funerals

Venue

A non-religious funeral can be held at many locations outside of a place of worship including cemetery chapels, crematoriums, natural/ woodland burial grounds or public locations such as a community centre or hotel.

Officiant

When choosing a non-religious funeral, you may wish to choose a humanist celebrant who can provide an alternative option to a religious ceremony without hymns or prayers. Another option is choosing the flexibility of a civil celebrant who can include either religious or non-religious elements should you wish.

Eulogies & Poems

As in many funerals there is the opportunity for family and friends to talk about their loved one, share stories, memories, and reflections. In the absence of religious readings, there are options for poems or literacy work to be read.

Symbolic Gestures

Many symbolic gestures or ideas can be performed to represent the life and passions of your loved one. Some gesture ideas include lighting candles, releasing doves, and planting trees or plants in memory.

Costs

When arranging a funeral, the costs will depend on the arrangements and options you would like to include. Green Willow Funerals aim to accommodate your every need, with no request being too small or large for us to deliver.

Frequently Asked Questions

We answer some of the most common questions our funeral directors receive:

Will I be able to see my loved one?

Yes, arrangements can be made to see your loved one in one of our funeral homes. In rare cases, a viewing may not be advised, in which case a closed coffin viewing can be arranged.

Where will my loved one be taken?

If your loved one dies expectedly, they would be taken to rest at one of our funeral homes, located at; Heath in Cardiff, Malpas in Newport, or Station Road in Dinas Powys.

How long does it take to arrange a funeral?

Depending on the circumstance, an attended funeral usually takes between 2-3 weeks to arrange. Timescales may vary depending on if your loved one is taken into the coroner’s care and whether you are arranging a burial or cremation. Your funeral director will work with you to discuss a date for the funeral that works best for you.

When is payment due?

Once you have met with your funeral director and discussed your loved one’s wishes, payment is required to cover the cost of third-party disbursements before the funeral can be arranged. Once payment is received, a funeral date can be confirmed. The remainder of the balance will be required within 60 days of the funeral. If you are choosing a White Willow Cremation, full payment is due at the time of arrangement.
